Welcome to the "Rumor Mill". I try to update this page at least weekly, and more often as time and situations permit. Most of these are strictly unsubstantiated rumors - some are factual news items, and I make no claims as to their validity, so take what you read "with a grain of salt". Many concern recruiting and coaching vacancies. Please e-mail rumors to rumormill@auburnfootball.com for posting or complete the form at bottom of this web page. I am selective in which rumors I post, so just because you e-mail me something, don't necessarily expect to see it posted.
DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY WITH THESE "RUMORS" - KEEP IN MIND THAT I AM JUST A FAN WITH NO "INSIDE" INFORMATION. MATERIAL FROM THE RUMOR MILL COMES FROM WHAT OTHER FANS, INSIDERS, ETC. HAVE E-MAILED ME, AND I MAKE NO CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION.

| 10-21-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS LSU QB JaMarcus Russel is playing at near 100% in practice, as he has apparently recovered from a bruised throwing hand. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-19-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS The current rumor is that JaMarcus Russell (LSU's QB) did not throw today in practice due to a minor injury to his throwing hand. It is still likely he will play on Saturday, but the extent of his injury is currently unknown. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-16-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Brad Lester, who left the Arkansas game with a groin injury, will not be available for the LSU game. Kenny Irons will be the starting RB. It was reported to me by a reliable source that John Parker Wilson, Alabama's back-up QB , got a DUI Saturday night / Sunday morning at around 2:40 AM near Hoover (his hometown). It (and his mug shot) was on the sheriff dept.'s database at one point but was conveniently removed sometime today. We'll see how the bammer cover-up will unravel. Wilson is 19 years old. Bama Coach Mike Shula has yet to comment on the situation. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-11-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Brad Lester will be named starting TB against Arkansas. It is rumored that DB Montae Pitts is in the coaches "doghouse" for an exchange of words between him and Coach Tuberville during the SC game. My source also says that he and Coach David Gibbs had a heated exchange. We will find out Saturday - keep an eye on the defensive backs. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-02-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Terrell Zachery out of Wadley HS in Wadley, AL committed to AU last night. He is 2nd top WR in the state, and among the top 50 nationally. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-27-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Brandon Cox should be healthy for the South Carolina game. Congrats to the fan who e-mailed me earlier in the week and said he wouldn't play against WKU - you called it. Keep the rumors coming, I'll post it next time! Kareem Crowell out of Tallahassee, FL is AU's 11th commitment. He is a DL/OL 6'5, 285 and runs a 5.0 40. He is overall one of the top 30 players in the state of Florida and is considered one of the top 15 DL prospects in the South. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-21-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Courtney Taylor will not play on Saturday due to injury sustained early in the game against Ball State. He is expected to be full strenghth by the South Carolina game. Everyone else is close to 100% and should see playing time. Kenny Irons is now listed as the #1 Tailback, and Carl Stewart as the starting fullback. Brad Lester is moving up the depth chart as well. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-20-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn's latest comittment: Alex Rose a 6'2" wide receiver from Florida. He runs a 4.4 40 and he is one of AU's top 5 wide receiver prospects. He was highly recruited by most major schools, and is one of the fastest WRs in the nation in high school. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-12-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS It is rumored that back-up defensive end Pat Sims has left the team after being demoted to third team. Sims did not play on Saturday, although he dressed out. He did not show up for practice Sunday. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-06-2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Top Tiger QB recruit Neil Caudle of Spain Park HS (Hoover, Al) blew out an ACL in last Friday nights loss to Oak Mountain. He has already suffered an ACL injury last year to his other knee. Auburn has worked on the defensive side of the football this week after last Saturday's fiasco against Georgia Tech. Specific work was done on over-pursuit in the run defense and short pass defensive strategies. Auburn is also adjusting its running game. The Tigers expect a very physical game against always tough Mississippi State this Saturday. The game will be broadcast at 11am on JP Sports affiliates. Auburn just received a verbal commitment from one of the nation's top wide receivers. Chris Slaughter (6'4 175) is a big play receiver from Peach County High School in Fort Valley, GA. He is regarded as being the best HS receiver/athlete in the state this season! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-29-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS DE Stanley McClover is back to almost 100% after being bothered with nagging injuries this fall. Patrick Lee and Montae Pitts are still battling for a starting cornerback position. Lee has started ahead of Pitts in the most recent practices, but both will probably receive playing time against Georgia Tech. David Irons has already locked up the other cornerback position. Steven Ross is back on the playing field, and battling walk-on Joe Cope for Auburn's starting center position. Auburn has added Washington State to begin the 2006 schedule as their 12th game. The Tigers will open the 2006 season with Washington State. This is a one game contract. The 2006 schedule will also include Florida as Auburn's SEC EAST rotating opponent. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-25-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville named redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Field as No. 2 quarterback, backing up starter Brandon Cox who is recovering from arm pain. Tuberville had said Field had edged ahead of Calvin Booker, but waited until after practice Wednesday to announce his decision. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-15-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Saturday's scrimmage went well for the Auburn offense. Brandon Cox looked very crisp, and was on target with his throws. The defense looked tired, but several key players were out or had limited action. INJURY UPDATE FROM SCRIMMAGE 1. Anthony Mix and David Irons collided going for a pass, and both were shaken up. Both went to the hospital via ambulance, but x-rays were negative and both should be back at practice this week. 2. Merrill Johnson, a back-up LB who was making great strides toward first team, dislocated his elbow and is expected out i believe 2-3 weeks. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-12-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS The scrimmage Saturday at Jordan-Hare is closed to the public. The team will be working on the game plan for Georgia Tech. CTT has stated that the entire schemes for the first two games are now in place. Tre Smith is out (no contact) due to his bout with appendicitis. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07-25-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS QB Steven Ensminger gave Auburn a verbal commitment today. Ensminger picked Auburn over University of Miami (FL). Ensminger is highly regarded as one of the top signal callers in the SouthEast, and really impressed AU coaches at camp this summer. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07-25-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS IThe latest rumor is that RFr OT, William Sullivan of N.C. is transferring to East Carolina. Sullivan, reportedly, wants to be closer to home. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07-19-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn has picked up firm commitments from 3 of the top players in the nation - QB Neil Caudle (Spain Park HS, Hoover, AL) DT Bart Eddins (Montgomery, AL), and today's big name RB recruit, RB Benjamin Tate (Newark, ME). Former signee, Greg Smith has also resigned, and will be a big contributor at the DT position. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07-11-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS I've been hearing that we are in strong talks about getting a home and home series started with Michigan for 2006 and 2007. The first game will be played on Sept. 9, 2006 at Ann Arbor and then Michigan will come to the Plains sometime in 2007. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07-03-05 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS The rumor is that Auburn plans on having two of the nations top ranked QBs on its committ list by August 1st. Steven Ensminger (Opelika HS) and Neil Caudle (Hoover HS) have both reportedly been offered (and possibly accepted) scholarships for the 2006 recruiting class. Caudle is considered the top quarterback in the nation by many recruiting sources, and is being recruited by virtually every D1 school in the nation. Ensminger is being recruited heavily as well, including strong pushes by LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Miami-FL, and California. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| SUMMER 2005 - RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Summer work-outs are beginning, and it looks to be great summer in Auburn. So far, all players have reported as expected, and are enrolled in summer classes. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 03-21-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS - SPRING PRACTICE RB Kenny Irons looks like he will the one to beat this fall at the tailback position. Though he remains "officially" the third string tailback on the depth chart (behind Tre Smith and Carl Stewart), he will likely see some MAJOR playing time, and may end up the starter by years end. Quite a few recruits enjoyed the A-Day game, one of which was GT QB Reggie Ball's younger brother, Marcus Ball. Bad news for Devin Aromashodu. It seems he injured his shoulder or collarbone in the game, and may be sidelined from work-outs for awhile. He should be back by fall, however. More updates to come. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 03-09-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS - SPRING PRACTICE Two starting linebackers are probably out for the rest of the spring with minor injuries- Travis Williams (sprained ankle (HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN)) and Kevin Sears (possible broken hand). Kenny Irons, Carl Stewart, and Tre' Smith all look great at running back. Expect all three to get major playing time next year. Brandon Cox and Calvin Booker are fighting for the starting QB spot, with Cox holding an edge (currently). The A-Day game is scheduled for March 19th at 1pm. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 02-13-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn picked up Division II Western Kentucky on their schedule to replace Southern Miss, who asked to be released from their scheduled commitment. The game is designated as Auburn's homecoming game, and will be played on September 24.
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 02-03-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS David Gibbs was named Defensive Coordinator today. Gibbs is a great young defensive mind who will bring exuberance and intensity to the Tigers. Visist http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=6&p=9&c=8 for info on the new recruiting class. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 02-02-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS This is just a rumor, but a couple of people have e-mailed me that former David Gibbs will be named the new Defensive Coordinator. Gibbs was fired as the Denver Bronco's defensive secondary coach last year. Another name being mentioned is former Florida DC Jon Hoke, who is currently with the Houston Texans. Former Texas A&M head coach RC Slocum may also be in the mix. RECRUITING UPDATES: See http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=6&p=9&c=8 for the updated recruiting list. Tomorrow is signing day, I expect a few surprises, hopefully they will be good ones. WAR EAGLE!!!!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-26-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Alonzo Horton (6'4, 220, 4.4), the outstanding defensive end from New Orleans, is "back in the fold". Horton reaffirmed his commitment to Auburn earlier today, and tells us that he is standing by his commitment. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-26-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Alonzo Horton is apparently "rethinking" his commitment to Ole Miss, and may recommit to Auburn later this week. Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville will meet with Horton later this week. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-24-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Alonzo Horton and Ryan Stamper both "recommitted" from Auburn this weekend. Horton decided to go to Ole Miss, and Stamper to Florida. Auburn expects to add several more "big-time" (4 star or higher) recruits this week to their 2005 recruiting class. Most recruiting sites have Auburn in the top 15 in the nation, and steadily climbing the recruiting rankings. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-19-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS A pair of the highest rated Tight Ends in the nation, Gabe McKenzie of Davidson HS in Mobile, and Tommy Trott of Trinity HS in Montgomery, both committed to Auburn today. Trott's father played at Auburn, and his grandfather played for Alabama. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-18-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS A day after getting a strong commitment from Williamson defensive end Antonio Coleman, Auburn snagged another Mobile-area commitment Monday as Vigor defensive lineman Sen'Derrick Marks announced his intentions to play for the Tigers. Coach Tuberville is meeting with one of the nation's top TE prospects, Tommy Trott tomorrow (Wednesday). A good discussion of recruiting can be found on this thread of the message board: http://p209.ezboard.com/fauburnfootballfanforumfrm7.showMessage?topicID=3419.topic | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-16-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn defensive coordinator Gene Chizik announced today that he will accept a co-coordinator position with the Texas Longhorns. Texas has had 3 coordinators in three years, the last leaving to take a HC position with Syracuse. It was rumored that Auburn offered a two year contract of $300,000 a year plus incentives to Chizik, but Chizik denied those rumors. Chizik said "no contract was seen, no contract was signed." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-12-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Marcus McNeil and Anthony Mix both announced today that they will return next season and play for Auburn, instead of entering the NFL draft. Quote from McNeil: Quote from Mix: On another note, it is reported that Auburn Defensive Coordinator Gene Chizik will (or has) interviewed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has not been offered the job as of yet, and it is unknown if he would accept it if it were offered. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-11-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Marcus McNeil will announce tomorrow (Wednesday, 01-12-05) whether he will return for his senior year, Early rumors point to him leaving to play professionally next year. Check back for updates. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01-10-05 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS I'm updating recruiting news as I get it on the message boards. See www.tigerinsider.com for our recruiting boards and discussion. I will have an updated recruit visit list here before the end of the week, as well as on the message board. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12-28-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Everyone looks to be healthy for the Sugar Bowl. WR Anthony Mix, injured late in the year, seems to be full speed. Auburn arrived in New Orleans today (Wednesday), had a quick team meeting, then went out to explore the town. The team has a 1am curfew. Coach Tommy Tuberville has again reiterated his lack of interest in the LSU coaching position vacated by Nick Saban. Expect uburn and Tuberville to announce his signature long term deal soon after the bowl game. Houston Nutt and Bobby Petrino (former AU OC and current Louisville HC) seem to be front runners for the LSU position. Former Miami HC Butch Davis may also be in the mix. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12-21-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS A top Texas lineman has committed to Auburn. Brian West, a 6'4, 265 DL from Beaumont, TX announced his intentions today. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12-20-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn has received firm verbal commitments from 4 of the top 25 linebackers in the nation. That list includes Tray Blackmon, the #1 rated linebacker in the nation, and Player of the Year in Georgia, and Ryan Stamper, a top rated stand-out from Jacksonville, FL. LB Patrick Trayhan from the fabled St. Augustine high school in New Orleans has also declared Auburn his college of choice. Auburn hosted the #1 running back prospect in the nation this weekend (Antone Smith) and the nations #1 defensive lineman prospect (Jerrell Powe). Both had a good visit, and Auburn stands a great chance of getting both players. Smith could compete for immediate playing time, with the graduation of Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown. Auburn is also high on the list of the nation's top rated defensive back, cornerback Warren McFadden. In state, Auburn is recruiting the top prospect in Alabama, TE Tommy Trott of Montgomery, and has already received a verbal commitment from the #2 prospect, WR Montez Billings of Pelham. Auburn has also received in-state commitments from LB Rex Sharpe and OL Andrew McCain. More recruiting to come, including an up-dated list of AU's commitments to date! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12-01-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS A. Williams will not play in the SEC Championship vs. TN due to his hand injury. He should be back in time for the bowl game. Auburn's schedule this year is ranked 23rd hardest in the nation, according to the NCAA website statistics. This is well ahead of top ranked USC, whose schedule is ranked 34th hardest. Go to the NCAA website, and when uneducated pollsters try to use the excuse of schedule when pointing out why Auburn shouldn't be ranked #1, show them this. Auburn's strength of schedule should also dramatically increase after the SEC Championship game against 15th ranked UT. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11-20-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Rumors have been swirling for the last couple of days, and it seems that they are true: Starting middle linebacker Antarrious Williams will not play against Alabama due to an injured arm/wrist (practice injury). Derrick Graves will make the start. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11-17-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn is wrapping up preparations for Alabama with no injuries to report. Coach Tuberville said today that the team is basically 100% healthy. I've heard that the Auburn scout team was told to "hold like crazy" when practicing against the starters this week. It has been common knowledge that the Alabama offense line "holds" so much, that officials could call it every play if they chose to do so. Probably the same could be said for many teams, however. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11-14-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS There were no substantial injuries suffered in the victory against Georgia. The Tigers are back to work getting prepared for Alabama and a tough test against one of the best defenses in the nation. Everyone should note the apparent irregularities in the Coaches Poll. This is another reason the pollsters should make the voting public record. I copied this off another Auburn message board. Quite a bit of it makes sense. "First, the points aren't adding up so that USC, Oklahoma, and Auburn are getting all of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes. I find it absolutely ridiculous that several coaches out there don't think these are the top 3 teams. I think its a lot more likely that 1 coach is putting one of those 3 teams way down outside the top 10 of his ballot. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11-11-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS The Auburn-Alabama game will be broadcast on CBS at 2:30pm. This week's Georgia game is also a 2:30 CBS kickoff. Starting center, Jeremy Ingle was full-speed in Wednesday’s practice. Ingle, who has been recovering from a severely sprained ankle the last three weeks, is expected to get the start Saturday against Georgia. “Jeremy Ingle has taken every snap the last two days,” said Tuberville. “He's really looked good. There won't be any problem there. He should be right at 100 percent Saturday. The doctors were here today…Dr. (James) Andrews came in just to look at him and some other guys, and everything looks good.” | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11-08-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS ESPN's GameDay broadcast will be from Auburn for the Auburn-Georgia game this Saturday. The GameDay set will be located on the grassy area to the west of the marquee at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. The show airs live from 9:30 -11 a.m. (CT) Saturday. This will be the national game of the week, and the biggest in the nation that day. The game marks the first time since 1983 that both teams come into the game ranked in the top 10. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11-06-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Second string center, Ross, will probably miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Starting, Jeremy Ingle hopes to to start next week against GA, but still has major edema around his ankle. Former starter Danny Lindsey (a starter in 2003) is probably going to move back to center for this week in case Ingle can't return as soon as expected ... Ingle will try taking snaps when preparations for the Georgia game starting next week. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11-01-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Tommy "TJ" Jackson's MRI showed no ACL damage. He has a sprained or twisted knee and should be 100% for the UGA game. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-28-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Word is that starting center Jeremy Ingle will not play in the Ole Miss game due to contunued ankle tenderness. He should be healthy for the Georgia game, as Auburn has a week off after this Saturday's game. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-24-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS INJURY REPORT - Only minor injuries reported from the Kentucky game. All starters should be healthy for the Ole Miss game on October 30. Starting center Jeremy Ingle - injury to ankle, will be healthy for the Ole Miss game. Defensive end Bret Eddins - wrist injury, will be healthy for the Ole Miss game. Linebacker Kevin Sears - shoulder injury is healing, should be healthy for Ole Miss game. Linebacker Antarrious Williams - shoulder "burner", should be healthy for Ole Miss game. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-22-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Tony Bell and Tre Smith will both be held out of the Kentucky game due to injury. Tony Bell still has an injured hamstring, and Tre Smith is still suffering from an injured shoulder. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-18-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn is ranked fourth in the first Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Standings released today. Southern California is the top-ranked team followed by Miami, Oklahoma and Auburn. Jason Campbell's performance against Arkansas Saturday earned him Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Jason was also named Cingular/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week. Auburn’s game at Ole Miss on October 30 will be televised by ESPN with kickoff slated for 6:45 p.m. (CT) at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-15-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn has been working against the scout team most of the week simulating Arkansas. Of most concern is containing Arky playmaker, Matt Jones. CTT said that Auburn plans to run a straight defense, not do anything fancy, and make Jones beat himself. Auburn defensive ends have been working on providing containment to the sides of the fields, and keeping Jones in the pocket. "Matt Jones is a big play guy", I heard from one of the coaches, "but not all of his big plays always go Arkansas's way. We plan to try and limit what he does against us, and get him to try and beat us individually, where he has made mistakes in the past. People forget that Arkansas has some pretty good running backs and wide receivers, and we don't plan on ignoring them". Auburn, 6-0 and 3-0 in the SEC, faces Arkansas, 3-2 and 1-1, Saturday at 2:30 p.m CDT. in a game televised by CBS from Auburn. Auburn's football game against Kentucky on Oct. 23 will be played at 1:30 p.m. CDT at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will not be televised. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-09-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn wins in a blow out 52 - 7. Injury update: Kevin Sears left the game with a bruised shoulder. Injury looks to be minor. Tony Bell "tweaked" his hamstring. Both are expected to be back and healthy for Arkansas next week! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-07-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn is finishing up preparations for Saturday's homecoming match-up against Louisiana Tech. Auburn's defense has been concentrating on stopping one of the nation's best running backs, La Tech's Ryan Motes. Homecoming is also Senior Day at Auburn, with all of Auburn's senior players and parents being honored. Next Saturday's game against Arkansas has been scheduled for 2:30pm, and will be televised nationally by CBS. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10-03-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn defensive back Junior Rosegreen tied a 65-year-old Southeastern Conference record with four interceptions against Tennessee. He was the named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Defensive Player of the Week. Rosegreen leads the nation in INTs! Auburn moved up to sixth in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll on Sunday. The Tigers have won seven straight games dating back to 2003, which is a tie for the fifth longest streak in the nation. The Tigers play Louisiana Tech on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game is Pay-Per-View in Alabama and Louisiana to cable subscribers and on Dish Network and Direct TV. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-23-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS ESPN's GameDay will broadcast live from Neyland Stadium in Knoxville for the Auburn - Tennessee matchup this Saturday. The game is ESPN's featured game of the day, and will be played at 6:45 CDT. The players held out of last Saturday's game against the Citadel are expected to 100% for the trip to Knoxville. Both Ronnie Brown and Tre Smith are expected to be at full speed; Jason Campbell's "turf toe" was virtually pain free in practice today. Expect Jamoga Ramsey (Soph, DelRay Beach, Fl) to get more playing time at the wide receiver spot this season. Ramsey showed himself as a playmaker who can hang on to the football last Saturday. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-23-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Jason Campbell may not play this Saturday against The Citadel. He is still nursing an bruised big toe, and isn't 100% mobile. Coach Tuberville doesn't want to risk any injury to Jason, esp. since Auburn plays Tennessee next week. If Jason plays at all against The Citadel, it will be only very limited action. Ronnie Brown has a slight hamstring pull, and may sit out Saturdays game. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-19-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS The Auburn - Tennessee game has been picked as ESPN's night game. Kick-off is scheduled on October 2, at 6:45pm CDT from Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. Injury Report: Jason Campbell is nursing a bruised big toe (seriously, they say those are painful), but isn't expected to miss any playing time. He is wearing a boot in practice to keep it immobilized. POLLS: Auburn is ranked ninth in this week’s AP Top 25 poll and 10th in the ESPN/USA Today ranking. The Vols are 11th in the AP poll and eighth in the ESPN/USA Today poll. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-19-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Auburn escaped from their 10 - 9 VICTORY over LSU with relatively few injuries. Other than the normal bumps and bruises, Auburn is as healthy now as they were at the start of the season. Auburn jumped to #10 in the nation in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankings. Auburn's opponent in two weeks, Tennessee, jumped to #8. It should be the top game in the nation played that weekend! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-17-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS The Auburn-LSU game will be played as originally scheduled at 2:30pm CDT Saturday 09.18.04. The game will be televised via CBS. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-15-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS As of now, there has been no decision to cancel the game Saturday. The final decision will be made tomorrow afternoon, or Friday morning. I've been told the team has already left to stay together in a hotel until a decision is made. LSU still plans on flying into Montgomery on Friday at 4:30, by which time the storm will be past that area. Prior precedents: 1975- Cat 3 Eloise hits Auburn on a Thursday...game played that Saturday 1995- Cat 3 Opal hits Auburn on a Thursday...game postponed that night to that Saturday. Looks like Ivan will be a Cat 3 at landfall...and it's hitting further west than the other two...if history is any indication...then the game will probably be played as scheduled, or at the latest, pushed back to Sunday. Letter from David Housel today: "We plan to play the game if at all possible and if it is the reasonable, right thing to do. We will assess all the variables before making a decision. If there are trees in the yard that's one thing; if there are trees on the house, that's another thing. If we can get a sufficient number of security personnel in Auburn, and if we have the basic necessities to run a game, things such as power and water, we intend to play. We plan to play if it is a matter of convenience or | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-13-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS ESPN GAME DAY PULLS OUT - Due to the forecasted path of Hurricane Ivan, ESPN has cancelled plans for it GAMEDAY broadcast from Auburn. Auburn officials however, say the game will definitely be played, rain or shine. Heavy rains are forecast for the Auburn area on Thursday, Friday, and partly cloudy with a chance of lighter rains Saturday and Sunday. WEATHER IN AUBURN | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-12-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS As reported earlier on this site (8-31-04), it appears that ESPN's GameDay Broadcast will be live from Auburn this coming weekend for the AU-LSU matchup. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-09-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Tre Smith is practicing full speed, and should be back to returning punts against Miss. State. We should see a more imaginative offensive game plan this week. The Mississippi State - Auburn game starts at 11:30 a.m. CT and can be seen on Jefferson Pilot Sports. AUBURN GAME DAY LINK | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-06-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS 73 players got playing time in Auburn's 31-0 win over ULM. There were no serious injuries to report, and relatively few minor ones (just bumps and bruises). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-04-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS No.3 tailback Tre Smith may miss the Monroe game because of a bad shoulder. Smith's injury means Carnell Williams will be the primary punt returner. Freshman Jerald Watson may also see playing time at that position. The injury news was good for freshman wide receiver James Swinton on Thursday. He went down with a knee injury Wednesday, but it turned out to be a relatively minor bruised tendon. He's questionable for the opener. Swinton has looked very impressive in pre-season practice, and will likeley see playing time this year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09-03-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Expect Brandon Cox to get some major playing time, not just as mop-up duty, but in rotated in during major games this season. Jason Campbell is firmly entrenched as the starter, but coaches continue to impressed with Cox's accuracy and his response to game type situations. A "vanilla" offense and "base" defense will be the standard for the Tiger's first game against La-Monroe. We will get a first look at some motion plays and two tailback sets as well, but not to any great extent. An interesting side note, former Auburn tailback Brandon Jacobs had 108 yards on 18 carries (and an impressive 4 touchdowns) in SIUs opener. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-31-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS I keep hearing that the ESPN Game DAY broadcast will be from Auburn for the LSU game. This has NOT been either confirmed or denied yet by ESPN. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-31-04 - FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE GAME ON SATURDAY: Auburn Network Football Affiliates | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-26-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Back-up QB, Brandon Cox, has looked exceptionally sharp in practice. He looks to have an excellent grasp of the offense, and his passes are crisp and on target. Jason Campbell will likely continue to wear #17 this season. He had commented on switching to #11, but that is unlikely. I guess we'll see come game day! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-24-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Expect freshman AU defensive back, Tony Bell, to get significant playing time this year. Bell has impressed coaches with his play making ability, talent, and work ethic. Judging from recent scrimmages, Bell may be a starter for the Tigers at safety before the season is complete, perhaps sooner rather than later. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-20-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Back-up sophomore offensive guard, Jarrod Britt, will have season ending shoulder surgery on Wednesday. His shoulder has given him problems as far back as high school, and team doctors thought it was in his best interest to go ahead with the surgery now. He should make a full and complete recovery. Britt still has his redshirt year left, so will have 3 more years after this one to complete his eligibility at Auburn. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-18-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Jason Campbell may switch to jersey number 11 this season - after wearing #17 for the previous 4 years. #11 is the number Jason has always wanted to wear, but was already taken by Karlos Dansby when Jason arrived at Auburn. Freshman Calvin Booker was slated to wear #11 this year, until Campbell "snagged" it and switched with him. Many people have already noticed that Jason has worn #11 in practice. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-17-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Briarwood TE/DE Andrew McCain committed to Auburn today. He is 6'6 250 and runs a 4.8 40. He ranked as the #11 prospect in Alabama by the Birmingham News, has a 4.0 GPA, and scored a 31 on the ACT. Florida also offered Andrew a scholarship. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-14-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS As a follow-up to the two previous posts, David Irons will have ACL reconstruction on Monday, 08-16-04. Good luck to David, and we look forward to seeing him and Kenny both playing for AU next year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-13-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS This is a rumor, and has not been confirmed, but David Irons (see previous post) may try to play this season - without repairing his ACL. There is a possibility that the results of the MRI yesterday were showing the unsuccessful results of a repaired ACL from 2 years ago. So .... David might have played his entire last season in JUCO lat year with a torn ACL, and he didn't know it. David will probably take anti-inflammatory medications, and play it by ear as far as his recovery goes, and have the surgery in the winter or spring. I am sure that more doctors will be consulted before a decision is made. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-12-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS David Irons, Jr. a potential starter at defensive back, tore his ACL in practice today. David has shown courage and determination in overcoming adversity on his path to playing for AU, and we are certain he will triumph over this setback. We look forward to seeing you play next year David, and Godspeed on a speedy recovery. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-12-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Travis Williams, as expected, has secured one of the starting positions at linebacker. Senior Mayo Sowell has been running with first team, and may also play middle linebacker, as Travis Williams can play the middle or outside positions. Courtney Taylor has been the "go to" receiver so far in practice. Carlos Rogers is still nursing a slight knee injury. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-10-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Former AU QB Dameyune Craig has been hired by LSU coach Nick Saban's staff as a graduate assistant. He worked with defensive backs on Monday during LSU's first practice of the 2004 season but is expected to also work with quarterbacks. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-09-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS DL Tommy "TJ" Jackson suffered a dislocated elbow in practice. He will be out of practice 2 to 3 weeks and may miss the first game against LA- Monroe. DB Carlos Rogers suffered a minor knee sprain, but is expected to miss minimal practice time. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-04-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS This may be old news, but Lorenzo Ferguson (6'3, 205), a CB from Miami who signed with LSU, has decided to come to Auburn. LSU apparently asked him to wait until January to come on campus because of a foot injury that has since healed. He will be eligible to practice and play this fall. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08-03-04 RUMOR MILL AND NEWS Practice Schedules: Fan Day is 3 to 5pm August 7th, and there will be an 8:45 a.m. practice on that day as well, on the intramural field.. The first practice is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday and the first practice in pads is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Monday. There will be 9:30 a.m. scrimmage at the stadium on Saturday, August 14th that is open to the public. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07-28-04 RUMOR MILL Tre Smith may redshirt this year. This rumor has been around for a while, but it is confirmed that Coach Tuberville plans to discuss the running back situation with Tre and his parents at the conclusion of two-a days. Much of the situation depends on the development of Carl Stewart as a back-up to Carnell and Ronnie. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07-21-04 RUMOR MILL All '04 recruits, with the exception of Greg Smith, are expected to academically qualify. Chris Browder on track to complete his classes at Southern Union this summer and be on campus in the fall. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06-21-04 RUMOR MILL There seems to be something going on with the recruitment of a player at Alabama. The message boards are buzzing about it, but right now, it seems that there is more smoke than fire. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06-18-04 RUMOR MILL THUG ALERT - This has been kept out of the mainstream press by Ole Miss, but their starting fullback, Rick Razzano has been indicted on 4 counts of assault. See the link: http://www.sunherald.com/mld/thesunherald/sports/8961502.htm The rumor is that an Ole Miss law student was brutally beat by Razzano, who continued with the assault, even after the victim was rendered near unconscious. I guess we'll soon see if Ole Miss Coach Davis Cutcliffe tolerates criminal thuggery on his team this year. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06-13-04 RUMOR MILL Jerald Watson has decided to come to Auburn to play football, instead of signing a professional contract with the Florida Marlins. Welcome to Auburn, Jerald!!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06-09-04 RUMOR MILL The newest info I have heard is that Jerald Watson was offered a $200,000 signing bonus by the Marlins, which is very surprising, considering he is a 40th round pick. However, rumor has it that he told Coach Tuberville that he is still 70-30 leaning toward coming to Auburn, unless they bump up the bonus. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06-09-04 RUMOR MILL I have had several people asking about the status of AU signee Jerald Watson, and whether he would opt to play pro baseball, or come to Auburn and play football this fall. He was drafted in the 40th round (pick 1280). That might mean a maximum of $1000 bonus. I would guess he is coming to Auburn. See you on the Plains, Jerald! War Eagl;e! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06-07-04 RUMOR MILL I heard that Steve Renfroe maybe on the way out as Auburn's baseball coach. I heard heard Dr. Richardson will act on Renfroe's future just as he did on the Cliff Ellis's case. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06-01-04 RUMOR MILL We heard that Tiger may be flying again this fall. Also heard that Raptor Center has a new, young Golden Eagle (not Bald) in training. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 05-25-04 RUMOR MILL A rumor was just sent to me saying that QB Kelsey Luke was transferring from Auburn. This, if true, is probably no surprise to many, as it looks like Brandon Cox has won the #2 QB position. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
