Welcome to the "Rumor Mill".  I try to update this page at least weekly, and more often as time and situations permit.  Most of these are strictly unsubstantiated rumors - some are factual news items, and I make no claims as to their validity, so take what you read "with a grain of salt".  Many concern recruiting and coaching vacancies.  Please e-mail rumors to rumormill@auburnfootball.com for posting.   I am selective in which rumors I post, so just because you e-mail me something, don't necessarily expect to see it posted.

DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY WITH THESE "RUMORS" - KEEP IN MIND THAT I AM JUST A FAN WITH NO "INSIDE" INFORMATION.  MATERIAL FROM THE RUMOR MILL COMES FROM WHAT OTHER FANS, INSIDERS, ETC. HAVE E-MAILED ME, AND I MAKE NO CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION.

RUMOR MILL - 2.05.2004  Hugh Nall has stepped down (or has been reassigned) as OC, and will return to coaching the offensive line.  A national search for coordinator is underway, with Toledo OC, Rob Spence being considered a frontrunner for the position.

RUMOR MILL - 1.28.2003 OL Leon Hart (6-5 280) of Spring Valley has decided to sign with the Auburn Tigers. Hart picked the Tigers over USC and Ohio State.

RUMOR MILL - 12.08.2003 - Brandon Jacobs has decided not to transfer to another university, but has decided to try his hand a linebacker or defensive end.  See the story!

RUMOR MILL - 011.26.2003  Coach Tommy Tuberville will probably be back at Auburn next year.

RUMOR MILL - 011.26.2003 AU President Walker, David Housel, and two members of the Board of Trustees met with Louisville HC Bobby Petrino last week.  This has been confirmed as true.  BUT - since Petrino has denied meeting with Auburn, this "release" by Walker where he confirmed that he had met with Petrino might be a deal-breaker.  If it is, and Petrino turns AU down, as it looks like he has, look for Tuberville to stay.  Another rumor says that Housel will resign as AD due to his mishandlement of this entire situation.

RUMOR MILL - 011.24.2003 According to many, Tuberville is out as HC, and Bobby Petrino is in.  Rumors say the announcement will be made after Louisville's game against Cincinnati on Friday.

RUMOR MILL - 011.24.2003 A popular sports radio show just reported that Tuberville has been fired according to "inside sources".  Supposedly it was just reported on 680 the Fan out of Atlanta at 12:55 EST by Buck Belew, who had supposedly talked to Hugh Nall.

RUMOR MILL - 011.20.2003 Latest report, Chizik is staying at Auburn.  Auburn has agreed to match what UCF would pay him as head coach.  Apparently he is to remain the defensive coordinator.

RUMOR MILL - 011.19.2003 Latest - CTT will be HC next year. Chris Petersen from Boise State will be the new OC. Check out his bio @ http://www.broncosports.com/football/roster.asp?biotype=personnel&personnelid=136.  And of course everyone has heard the rumor that Auburn will be wearing  black jerseys on Saturday!

RUMOR MILL - 011.18.2003 Latest rumor - David Housell will retire as athletic director at end of season. Tommy Tuberville will assume the position as athletic director and director of football operations. Louisville coach Bobby Petrino will be hired as Head Coach.

RUMOR MILL - 011.17.2003  The "hot" rumor of the week seems to be about CTT resigning after the Alabama game.  One rumor claims that he will cite "health concerns" as the reason he is leaving.  Rumored replacements include Coach Bobby Petrino (former AU OC, and present HC at Louisville) and LSU OC, Jimbo Fisher (who was the on Terry Bowden's staff when he was at Auburn).

RUMOR MILL - 011.12.2003 Latest rumor has Defensive coach Gene Chizik going to UCF as a head coach and Brandon Jacobs transferring to McNeese State next year.  I can't say I blame him, esp. if Carnell comes back, as he has said he intends to do.

RUMOR MILL - 09.02.2003 Quarterback Jason Campbell sported six stitches in his arm after the USC fiasco.  He went through only half of Monday's practice because of soreness, but will play in Saturday's game at Georgia Tech.  Ben Grubbs has been moved from defensive to offensive line, in an attempt to shore up one of the Tiger's most glaring weaknesses.

RUMOR MILL - 08.27.2003 Freshman John Vaughn has won place kicking duties, RS Freshman Michael Gibson will punt, and Phillip Yost will handle kick-offs.  Starting in the defensive secondary will be safeties Karibi Dede and Donnay Young and cornerbacks Junior Rosegreen and Carlos Rogers.

RUMOR MILL - 08.21.2003 Kevis Burnham, a second string middle linebacker, has undergone season ending knee surgery.  Mayo Sowell will now serve as DT's backup at the spot.  True freshman Kelcy Luke has apparently overtaken Brandon Cox for the 3rd string QB position.  Josh Sullivan is firmly entrenched behind Jason Campbell as the 2cd string QB.  Courtney Denson has also been getting some snaps at the number 3 position.  More on Game Day festivities ... There will be a Jim Fyffe tribute at half time and the cheerleaders will lead the East side of the stadium in a TOUCHDOWN and the West in an AUBURN when we score a touchdown!  Also there will be a Harrier jets fly by and all pilots will be Auburn graduates.

RUMOR MILL - 08.11.2003  The freshman kicker from Nashville, John Vaughn, has looked exceptional in practice, and has probably taken field goal duties from Phillip Yost.

RUMOR MILL - 08.06.2003 - I have heard that the eagle won't be ready to fly at our season opener against USC.  Marine SGT. Ian Hogg (the Humvee flying the AU flag in Iraq that was featured in newspapers around the world) will be honored at the opener.  Sgt. Hogg was also awarded a full scholarship to Auburn.

David Irons Jr. has failed to earn academic qualification and will play this season at Butler (Kan.) Community College instead. The sophomore was expected to battle for a starting role at cornerback this fall.

RUMOR MILL - 08.01.2003 -  Redshirt freshman safety Cavari Dailey recently left the team and is expected to transfer to a junior college, while sophomore Lemarcus Rowell, who was suspended after his arrest earlier this summer, will also attend junior college. Tuberville said that Rowell might return to the team pending his performance in junior college.  Fullback Tez Doolittle has qualified, but the Opelika native won't take part in early practices and likely won't be cleared by doctors to play until mid-October after having a pair of surgeries over the summer.

The football field was vandalized last night by 2 to 3 students set to graduate this summer.  2 arrests have been made.
